A Life-Saving Visit to the Wickenburg Community Hospital Emergency Department
Darren Lambert, owner of Juniper Lamp Co here in Wickenburg, is no stranger to discomfort. For years he has struggled with the unpleasant symptoms of an enlarged prostate.
“It’s something I inherited from my father,” he said.
But suddenly a new problem was affecting him. Darren had not been feeling good for several days and he couldn’t shake it. Being busy with the shop made him reluctant to take time for a necessary doctor’s appointment.
As time passed his symptoms grew worse, he became weak and could no longer ignore what was happening to his body. That is when he drove himself to the emergency room at Wickenburg Community Hospital (WCH).
A Visit to the Emergency Department
He arrived at the hospital and was quickly taken to triage. By the time he was evaluated his vital signs were dangerously abnormal and it was evident to everyone caring for him that he was in a critical condition. The ER doctor was able to identify a kidney infection that also caused sepsis.
Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to infection or injury. Like a stroke or heart attack, sepsis is a medical emergency that requires rapid diagnosis and treatment.
According to Darren, that is exactly what he received. In fact, he credits the expert care he received in the ER for saving his life.
“They did an incredible job of making me feel better even though I was a borderline heart attack, stroke, or worse.”
Once Darren was stabilized, he was admitted to the hospital where he stayed for four days. He said “The nurses were very good if not great at their job. I can’t say enough how much they did for me.”
Currently, Darren is home and focused on healing his body. Unfortunately, he is experiencing lingering effects from the sepsis that is keeping him from getting back to work on his gorgeous lamps. Not to mention he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, so he is having to adapt to a new way of life and mindful eating. He now reads food labels!
Follow Up Care & Foundation Giving
He continues to be impressed by the level of follow-up care he is receiving from the WCH Clinics. He is now being followed by Dr. Bejerano and Dr. Kravetz. Soon he will be getting in with Dr. Kowalczyk the new Urologist at WCH to treat his enlarged prostate.
“We are very blessed to have this hospital here close or I may have not gone in.”
Darren and his girlfriend, Ronda, attended the Community Dinner at the 19th Annual Amigos Trail Ride & Drive and gave support to the Hospital Foundation by participating in the silent auction.
